GARY MARLOWE: OUTPLAYING MACHINES BY BEING HUMAN.

2025 Crystal Pine Award winner Gary Marlowe is a visionary and explorer.

Marlowe’s outstanding musicality allows him to embrace imperfections, illustrating that his artistry is the work of a

human musician, rather than merely code. His philosophy is: “Being an artist is all about being human.”

The composer draws inspiration from his personal experience, growing up musically in the mythical 1980ies in Berlin.

Literally “sitting in the Dschungel”, as Bowie sang, with Hansa Studios as his playground.

With his live ensemble ECHOES OF SPACE, Gary Marlowe creates unique, immersive 3D Audio concerts, co-produced

with 2025 Grammy winner Hans-Martin Bu (Peter Gabriel). Their celebrated 2023 world premiere at the highly reknown FMF festival in Kraków, Poland, featured Gary Marlowe with Mirjam Skal and The Fantastic Laura B, and live video art by Philipp Geist. Electronic, emotional and empathetic, the music of EOS is a soundtrack for the sensitive.

Gary Marlowe began playing the piano at four and became an early synthesizer prodigy in his teens. He went on to

become a No.1 hit songwriter and a Gold Record-winning music producer. After studying Ethnomusicology in Berlin, he

pursued Composition for Film at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where he learned from Oscar winners Luis

Bacalov and Nicola Piovani.

Marlowe´s vision of “beautifully human sound worlds” and his relentless search for artistic quality have inspired an

extensive body of work. This includes landmark recordings with progressive thrash metal acts Coroner and Rage,

sharing the stage with Iggy Pop and The Ramones, compositions for art exhibitions like the Biennale di Venezia, and

performances with international orchestras such as the Brussels Philharmonic and various Italian ensembles.

Gary Marlowe’s film scores include award-winning features such as “Everything Will Change” (with Wim Wenders),

“Lautlos”, “Planeta 5000”, and the acclaimed documentaries “The Milk System”, “A Place Called Los Pereira”, and

“Alcohol”. He also composed music for series like “Inside the Stones” (with Nine Inch Nails and Moby), and his latest

sequel to the legendary crime drama series “Tatort” garnered 10 million viewers.

In 2025, Gary Marlowe won the Crystal Pine Award at the International Sound and Film Music Festival in Varazdin,

Croatia, with his compositions for “Hydrogen”. Further accolades for Marlowe´s works include multiple nominations at

the Jerry Goldsmith Awards and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, the German Documentary Film Music Awards

2018, and the Grimme Preis 2019. In 2020 “Planeta 5000” won the Premios Simón in Spain. „Everything Will

Change“ opened the Zürich Film Festival, and won the prestigious Max Ophüls Preis 2022.

Gary Marlowe has ocially been appointed as a “Steinway Artist.” He is a Berlinale Talent Alumnus, a member of the

World Soundtrack Academy, the Ivors Academy, and the European Film Academy.
